Data in these charts is as published by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand monthly.
It tracks volumes of foreign exchange transactions monthly, for the three classes of trading.
1. Spot transactions - NZ$ against all other currencies
2. outright Forward transactions - NZ$ against all other currencies
3. Swap transactions - NZ$ against all other currencies
As the New Zealand dollar is fully and freely floating, it attracts considerable demand from currency traders. In fact, it is the eleventh most traded currency in the world, accounting for almost 1.5% of all volume. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_exchange_market
Currency values traded monthly far exceed New Zealand's annual GDP.
