The REINZ disclose the 'days-to-sell' period when they publish the monthly median house value, and volumes sold.
Care should be taken with this 'days-to-sell' data, as it is almost always the 'days-to-sell-by-the-selling-agent', and may not be the same as the total time a median house has been listed for sale.
Especially in times of a slow market, vendors may switch from one one agent to another, or more, until a sale is finally achieved.

Back in the day (1980's) I recall the norm average in NZ was 3 months/90 days to sell so the current 42 days seems to me to still be pretty quick, albeit influenced no doubt by NZs crazy predilection for the auction system (which benefits no one but the agents).
