Every month (except January), the ANZ surveys business managers, recording their opinions in a broad range of areas, and reporting them in their Business Outlook reports.
They ask questions in two key areas:
1. With regard to the New Zealand economy ...
2. With regard to Your Buisiness ...
The Business Confidence measure is from the first area, from this question:
"Do you believe that General Business Conditions in 12 months time will have ...
- improved?
- remain the same?
- deteriorated?"
You should note that this is different from asking about how your own firm will do over the same period, which is a separate question, and tracked in a separate chart.

Interesting to note that as at 2/6/22 there has only been 4 months (or 4 times) since the Labour Party has been in power, which is 54 months, have we seen "our prospects for the economy'' in a positive light. The other 52 months have been recorded above as negative.
Yep , and as of 30/6/23 those forecasts based on "business feelings" look set to be wrong yet again .
Bank business surveys are worthless beyond the headline.
