Here are the key changes to know about in the New Zealand equity market; Vulcan Steel and two gentailers star on a down day dominated by falls by Kathmandu, a2Milk, Gentrack and SkyTV

Here are the key things you need to know about in the NZX markets over the past 24 hours. Changes are as at 3:00 pm and may change when the market closes at 4:45 pm.

WHAT THE NZX50 IS DOING
The NZX50 has fallen -0.9% since yesterday. This puts the index up at +3.3% for the month, and +8.1% over the past six-months. Year-on-year it is up +16.9%

THE MAIN GAINERS
There are only 24 gainers in the equity market today. The biggest gain by Vulcan Steel (VSL, #27) up +0.6%. Vulcan has gained +9.4% for the last month alone, up +13.7% for the year. All three of Genesis Energy (GNE, #18), Contact Energy (CEN, 8), and Spark (SPK, #9) gain +0.5%. GNE declines for the full year down -12.8% followed by Spark down -38.7% year-on-year. Contact Energy gains +11.9% for the year.

THE MAIN DECLINERS
There are currently 63 decliners on the market. Kathmandu Brands (KMD, #50) is back at the top of the decliners board down -4.1% and slump down to a -45.4% drop year-on-year. a2 Milk (ATM, #10) declined -3.2% but have a big gain over the full year up +47.8%. Gentrack (GTK, #28) has the next biggest decline down -2.6% followed by Sky Television (SKT, #46) down -2.2%.

KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS
a2 Milk (ATM, #10) announced the appointment of a new independent non-executive director, Antonio Rivera, in effect from the 1st of November. Rivera has over 35 years of experience in the supply change industry, accompanied by 17 years of leadership experience. Rivera has previously worked at Mead Johnson Nutrition, leaving when the company was acquired by Reckitt Benckiser Group plc. Chair of ATM, Pip Greenwood commented: "We are very pleased to appoint Tonet as a director of the Company. Tonet is a highly capable individual with deep expertise and experience gained over many years as a supply chain leader, including leading the global supply chain of a multinational infant nutrition company.”

Sky Network Television (SKT, #46) and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) announce a partnership expansion whereby Sky becomes the exclusive home of Max in New Zealand which is set to bring an 'extensive' collection to Sky and Neon customers from the 30th of October. Chief Executive Sophie Moloney says “We have a long-standing partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, so I’m thrilled that instead of launching direct-to-consumer in this market, WBD will work with Sky to bring New Zealanders exclusive access to Max, a brand that has become synonymous with great entertainment. Across our variety of platforms, Sky and Neon customers will enjoy premium content and brands, including Max and HBO Originals as well as WBD’s classic franchises and a deep library of much-loved titles.

Tower Insurance (TWR) announced that it will officially be added to the NZX50 Portfolio Index and MidCap Index today. This comes as Arvida Group (ARV) was acquired by US private equity firm, Stonepeak. When the first announcement was released on October the 16th, Tower CEO Blair Turnbull said that this move was "a positive milestone and proud day for the company". "It is symbolic of the significant work undertaken over many years to successfully reposition Tower."
