The Opening Bell: Where currencies start for Monday, January 13, 2014

By Dan Bell

The NZD/USD opens around 0.83 this morning after a night of US Dollar weakness on Friday.

The US Employment Report on Friday night was much weaker than expected with jobs growth of only 74K versus expectations of 197K.

The big fall in jobs growth has been attributed to severe weather in the US last month.

US stocks had a mixed session on Friday night but the S&P 500 ended up 0.23%.

The NZD opens at 0.9215 AUD, 0.6066 EUR, 0.5032 GBP, 86.22 JPY, 0.9034 CAD.

Nothing to report on the local front today. From Australia we get ANZ Job Ads and Home Loans.
