The Opening Bell: Where currencies start on Wednesday, April 22, 2015

The NZDUSD opens at 0.7660 (mid-rate) this morning.

The NZD is little changed from yesterdays open as investors await further data releases for direction, the first of which should come in the form tomorrows China HSBC Flash Manufacturing PMI print.

Yesterdays RBA Monetary Policy Meeting Minutes reaffirmed Governor Stevens comments from the previous night that further interest rate cuts were discussed and are still on the table if required.

Last night’s German ZEW Economic Sentiment survey came in below the market expectations of 55.6 printing 53.3.

Asian and European equity markets are higher but the Dow finds itself in negative territory - Dow -0.48%, Nikkei +1.40%, Shanghai +1.82%, FTSE +0.15% DAX +0.40%, CAC +0.10%

Gold prices have rallied back above $1200 currently up $6 at $1201 Oil (WTI) is down 2% trading at $55.55.

NZDGBP           0.5133
NZDJPY              91.74
NZDAUD           0.9941
NZDCAD           0.9420

There are no domestic data releases today.
