ASB says rural high flyer Michael Spaans will join its board in January as a non-executive director.
Spaans is a director of Fonterra, and chairs the strategy and investment committee of DairyNZ, which invests some $80 million annually on behalf of New Zealand farmers. ASB says Spaans has been a dairy farmer since 1984 with business interests including a 500 cow dairy farm near Te Aroha, plus farming interests in Chile, Canterbury and the US state of Missouri.
ASB has been growing aggressively in the rural sector over the past few years. See more in this Double Shot interview with ASB's executive general manager of corporate, commercial and rural banking Steve Jurkovich.
Spaans joins managing director Barbara Chapman, chairman Gavin Walker, Jonathan Hartley, Jane Freeman, Michael Coomer, Simon Blair and Catherine McDowell on the ASB board.
