Australian meterologists say signs of an emerging La Nina event have been recorded in the equitorial Pacific Ocean over the past few months.
They are predicting a La Nina weather period is on its way.
We last had a La Nina weather pattern in 2008.
La Nina brings a different impact for New Zealand's climate than its cousin El Nino. Farmers can expect more N/E winds, which will bring moist rainy conditions to the N/E North Island and reduced rainfall to the south, and south west of the South Island.
Unfortunately there are some areas like Central Otago and South Canterbury that can face drought under both El Nino and La Nina conditions.
New Zealand's NIWA says warmer than normal temperatures typically occur over much of the country during a La Nina, "although there will be regional and seasonal differences in some regions".
Share with us the sort of season your area experienced during the last La Nina event, and how did it affect your grass growth?
