The challenges rural women face in their personal careers are significant.
Isolation from most career options available to others, and the pressures of partnering in an active rural business are obvious impediments.
But for those that want to pursue their own career path from a farm or rural base, there are always opportunities for resilient entrepreneurs.
Marina Shearer was one of them who has overcome the hurdles and built a unique business.
“In every community there is quite an extensive range of services that are mostly filled by women and our community has really grown in these service areas,” she says. “I think the creative rural woman can look around her community and ask “what gap is there” or look at a shed full of bales of wool and think “I reckon I can find a market for that“.
Her's is an inspiring story for any budding businessperson working in relative isolation and wanting to find a new career path.
And she has stories of many others who have done it. It is a very worthwhile listen.
