Kiwibank withdraws its key home loan special, raises some short-term rates, lowers some long-term ones, keeps cashback incentive

Kiwibank withdraws its key home loan special, raises some short-term rates, lowers some long-term ones, keeps cashback incentive

Kiwibank has withdrawn its hot two year 'special' home loan rate this morning.

It has also raised three short term fixed rates and lowered two longer term rates.

Its six month fixed mortgage rate has been raised +19 bps to 5.89% from 5.70%.

Its one year fixed rate has also been raised, going up +14 bps to 5.99% from 5.85%.

And its standard two year rate has been raised to 6.29%, up +10 bps from 6.19%.

At the same time, they have withdrawn their hot two year 5.85% special.

There was no change to their three year rate, still at 6.29%. This is the term they are promoting as their fighting rate.

Going the other way, Kiwibank have reduced their four year fixed rate to 6.80% from 6.99%, a fall of -19 bps.

And they also reduced their five year rate, cutting it by +25 bps to 6.95% from 7.20%.

Kiwibank's $2,000 cashback offer of $2,000 for all loans over $100,000 is retained.

None of the Kiwibank moves today are market-leading although their new five year rate is the best of the major banks.

These adjustments come after ASB announced a new 5.95% one year 'special', and it raised its cashback incentive to $3,000, although you need a loan of $250,000 minimum to qualify.

Wholesale markets bid up swap rates sharply last week, and the 90 day bank bill rate continued its steady rise. Retail home loan rates will always follow those wholesale trends although the delays can present opportunities for borrowers who are ready to make a deal.
