ANZ pushes its term deposit rates up a notch, now has best main bank rate for 18 months

ANZ has moved this morning to maintain its lead over its main rivals with its term deposit offers.

It has raised its carded offers for fixed terms of 9 months, one year, and 18 months.

The new ANZ nine month rate of 4.00% is a rise of 20 bps. It positions ANZ as having the highest rate among the main banks for this term, although you can get the same rate for six months from the Co-op Bank and Heartland Bank. You can also get 4.00% for a four month term from Westpac.

ANZ's one year rate of 4.10% (an increase of 15 bps) is not as high as Kiwibank's 4.20% and matches a range of other banks who also offer this level.

But ANZ's 18 month rate of 4.50% is now a market leader and is only matched by a pre-existing offer by the Co-op Bank. This change represents an increased by ANZ of 20 bps.

These ANZ changes follow catch-up rises by Westpac on Thursday.
