WHAT THE NZX50 INDEX IS DOING
The NZX50 showed little movement today (up less than +0.1%), but it remains down -1.1% for the month. Over the past six months the index has climbed +8.1%, contributing to a solid +13.2% year-on-year gain.
THE MAIN GAINERS
The trading week begins with 38 gainers, led by NZX Limited (NZX, #41), which posted a strong +4.3% increase. Over the past six months, NZX has gained +31%, maintaining a substantial +36% rise year-on-year. Gentrack (GTK, #27) followed with a +2.2% gain, contributing to an impressive +98% increase year-on-year. Spark (SPK, #9) rose +1.6% today but remains down -38% over the year. Tower Limited (TWR, #40) gained +1.5%, boosting its year-over-year performance to an exceptional +114%.

THE MAIN DECLINERS
The market recorded 34 decliners today, led by Infratil (IFT, #4), which fell -2.1% to start the week. Despite today’s drop, Infratil has shown consistent performance, gaining +10.1% over the past six months and +25% year-on-year. Contact Energy (CEN, #8) posted the next largest decline, down -1.2%. Contact is also down -3.2% for the past month but remains up +9.2% year-on-year. Tourism Holdings (THL, #44) and The Warehouse Group (WHS, #49) both slipped -1% today.

KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Contact Energy (CEN, #8) has promoted CFO Dorian Devers to Chief Development & Major Projects Officer, effective January 1, 2025. The new role will streamline project development and execution to accelerate renewable energy initiatives, including geothermal, solar, and wind projects. Devers has been instrumental in financing Contact’s multi-billion-dollar renewable program and leading major transactions. This change comes as Chief Development Officer Jacqui Nelson and Major Projects Director Jack Ariel prepare for retirement. Recruitment for a new CFO is underway.
a2 Milk (ATM, #11) has appointed Lain Jager as an independent non-executive director, effective December 1, 2024. Jager, former CEO of Zespri International, brings significant agribusiness and international leadership experience, having overseen Zespri's global expansion and strong financial growth. He will also join the Board’s People and Remuneration Committee. A formal resolution to elect Jager will be presented at the Company’s annual meeting in 2025. Additionally, Sandra Yu will assume the role of Chair of the People and Remuneration Committee on 22 November 2024, following the retirement of Warwick Every-Burns.
