New entrants to the home loan market expected as RBNZ restrictions on low equity residential mortgage lending begin

Private companies are considering entering the markets for both low equity home loans and insurance and could do so soon, says KPMG.

John Kensington, KPMG partner and acting head of financial services, told interest.co.nz  the introduction of restrictions on high  loan-to-value ratio (LVR) residential mortgage lending by the Reserve Bank this week appeared set to herald the entry into the financial services market of new players, and the broadening of service offerings from existing financial service providers.

"You might see some of it happen in the next little while, both in the insurance and in the banking space," Kensington said.
