The founder of Facebook decided to take a look at the Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, and wasn't impressed.
Mark Zuckerberg believes his company's Quest 3 headset is the superior "face computer" as it's lighter, has a wider field of vision and doesn't require a battery pack like the Vision Pro.
Apple's Vision Pro is not yet available in New Zealand. In the United States, the headset starts at US$3499 for a model with 256 gigabyte storage. At today's exchange rate, that's NZ$5730 approximately before GST.
In comparison, the Meta Quest 3 starts at NZ$929 for a 128 GB storage model, although the company wants you to pony out NZ$1199 for the 512 GB device. Both use handheld controllers whereas Vision Pro relies on eye movement tracking.
With the review Zuckerberg does what Apple never does: acknowledging the competition. The takeaway from the Instagram post is that Meta is most likely worried Apple will muscle in on its turf.

AVP does not have any controllers, it relies on a combination of hand-tracking and eye-tracking. From reviews, the hand-tracking is decent at 2D tasks but pretty poor for 3D tasks, which means it's not great for gaming. That is likely to be part of the reason Apple are not focussing on gaming for this headset as yet.
In contrast, the Quest 3 has controllers which are very accurate, as well as hand-tracking which is accurate enough for gaming (I prefer controllers). The Quest 3 does not have eye tracking.
