A solid but dated North Shore do up fetches $860k and a leaky home fetches $620k
This Hillcrest house sold for $860,000.

A million dollars doesn't go far on Auckland's North Shore these days, but one of the properties that did fetch less than a mill at Bayleys North Shore auctions was a four bedroom home at Hillcrest.

Hillcrest is an inland suburb on the Shore, located on the western side of the northern motorway between Takapuna and Glenfield.

It was the first time the house had been on the market in more than 50 years and it was solidly constructed and had all of its original features, but by modern standards most people would consider it dated on the inside.

So it was a good opportunity for someone to get out the paintbrush and bring it into the modern age. The 680 square metre section also offered plenty of potential for keen gardeners.

It sold for $860,000 compared to its latest rating valuation of $750,000.

Other highlights of Bayleys North Shore auctions were a house a few minutes walk from Takapuna beach which sold for $2.45 million, and a leaky four bedroom home at Birkenhead, which would require either recladding or perhaps a complete rebuild, but sold for $620,000.

There was also some auction action at Bayleys auction room in East Tamaki where a stock standard three bedroom house at Highland Park sold for $707,000, while a couple of others out east were passed in for sale by negotiation.

This is BS ! I am sorry , but the Auckland Council is to blame for this fiasco, and thay stand to benefit as a result of this mismanagement  through higher rates and taxes .

There is no way that every second house on the Shore is worth a million $ .

The market has now gone crazy
