ANZ says its senior economist Sharon Zollner is succeeding Cameron Bagrie as the bank's New Zealand chief economist.
Zollner (pictured) has been a senior economist at the bank since 2010. She has also worked as an economist for the Reserve Bank and the Central Bank of Norway.
At ANZ Zollner established the ANZ Truckometer, one the bank's signature economic reports that uses traffic flows to demonstrate economic momentum.
“It is an exciting time to be a macroeconomist. While traditional statistics will always be hugely important, big data promises to transform the business of monitoring the economy and I look forward to being a part of it," Zollner said.
She has a Master of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Canterbury, and has completed an online Machine Learning Engineering Nanodegree from Udacity.
ANZ economics team also includes economists Philip Borkin, Con Williams and Kyle Uerata.
ANZ announced in early October that Bagrie was resigning, but would remain at ANZ while the bank recruited a replacement.
