The Reserve Bank has appointed Mark Perry, who spent 15 years with the BNZ, as its new head of financial markets.
Perry starts in the role on September 10. He replaces acting head of financial markets Bernard Hodgetts who has been filing in since Simon Tyler left the position in mid-June to become chief executive of the Government Superannuation Fund Authority and the Board of Trustees of the National Provident Fund.
The financial markets department is responsible for the Reserve Bank’s domestic and foreign exchange markets activity, and for research and analysis on macro-financial stability.
In a brief statement Reserve Bank deputy governor Grant Spencer said Perry had a strong background in financial markets, having spent more than 20 years in senior roles in New Zealand, Australia and Britain. This includes 15-years at the BNZ, including five years as its head of financial markets.
“Mark’s skills and experience will contribute greatly to the work of the Reserve Bank,” Spencer said.
