No significant reported damage from Friday's 5.2 quake, weekend shocks, Brownlee says; Within range expected

There has been no significant damage reported from Friday's 5.2 magnitude earthquake near Christchurch, Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says.

The quake was within the 'decay curve' of expected aftershocks following an initial quake which hit the Canterbury region in September 2010.

Any calls on the Earthquake Commission would be minimal, Brownlee said.

“Every big event like that causes everyone to have a think about where things are at. But there’s been no significantly reported damage at all. It was 10 kilometres offshore, it was shallow by comparison, but it hasn’t done the damage that it might have had it been somewhere else," Brownlee told media in Parliament Buildings on Tuesday.
