Australians earning NZ$460 a week more than NZers

Australian workers are earning on average NZ$460 per week more than their New Zealand counterparts, figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show. This adds up to an extra NZ$24,000 per year for the average Australian worker in before-tax earnings. The average weekly New Zealand wage for males and females combined, including overtime is NZ$920 before tax. For Australian workers the figure is AU$1,200, converted to NZ$1,380. The average New Zealand before-tax wage is 66% of the Australian average wage. Interest.co.nz recently reported that in the year to September 2008 a record number of New Zealanders moved permanently to Australia, at a rate of 130 per day.
