Here's a video fromĀ TVNZ 7's Media7 programme that looks in depth how banks are covered by the media in New Zealand. I was on the debate panel with Finsec Campaigns Director Andrew Campbell and Sunday Star Times Business Editor Tim Hunter. It was hosted very well by Public Address' Russell Brown, who does a great job with this show.
We ranged over quite a few areas, including whether the banks were gouging profits (I say no), whether the banks are treating businesses unfairly with their lending policies (I say businesses are luckier here than elsewhere) and whether sponsorship of news programmes influences news judgement ( I say no and mention the ASB sponsorship of our 90 at 9 videos). We also covered Kiwibank's anti-Australian ad campaign, which I'm not a fan of, and Reserve Bank Governor Alan Bollard's use of the media to get his message across.
