- The Crown can and should set best practice employment standards through its role as New Zealand’s largest employer.
- Introduce a new framework for state sector collective bargaining, promoting a more consistent and fair approach to employment protections across the public sector
- Ensure state sector employees are meaningfully involved in decisions about restructuring that would affect them and their work.
- Adopt robust policies for workplace non-discrimination in hiring and promotion across the broader state sector.
- Ensure all workplaces are fully accessible for disabled employees.
- Promote work life balance for state sector employees, including higher staffing levels in sectors where shift work is required or where the nature of the work creates a risk of burnout..
- Ensure state funding for the community sector is sufficient to promote fair wages and safe staffing levels, acknowledging the social value of this work and a lack of other funding sources.

- Increase minimum sick leave entitlements from five days to ten days a year.
- Increase the minimum wage to $20 an hour in 2021.
- Make it easier for women to gain pay equity in their organisation or across their industry, by ensuring there are better records of pay equity across New Zealand, including by ethnicity and age as well as gender.
- Make it easier for workers to receive fair wages and conditions, and avoid the 'race to the bottom' that occurs within competitive industries by implementing Fair Pay Agreements.
- Strengthen and simplify the Holidays Act, and allow sick leave to be taken when needed.
- Protect vulnerable workers by legislating protections for dependent contractors and by recognising security guards as vulnerable workers to ensure their terms and conditions are protected.
- Raise the age for workers to be allowed to perform hazardous work, ensure all workers have the right to elect health and safety representatives, and ensure Seafarer Welfare Centres provide better services.

- Negotiate for the full reinstatement of the 90 day trial programme or at least expand its reach to more small businesses.
- Re-establish Careers New Zealand as a separate entity but widen its target demographic to cover all New Zealanders regardless of age – currently no agency has responsibility for careers advice after secondary school – Careers New Zealand would assume this responsibility
- Extend funding and professional development around career advice and job transition for librarians across New Zealand so they can better support their community, regardless of age or employment status, with employment and training advice
- Enhance local workforce development councils and industry workforce planning to better target financial support for on and off job training
- Through greater focus on and investment in both local and nationwide skills needs minimise the importation of labour
- Streamline and target apprenticeship financial support to ensure a continual stream of skilled workers in New Zealand key industries as these change and grow to minimise reliance on imported skilled workers
- Reinstate Workbridge as the primary employment agency for Kiwis who are differently abled and resource them to provide the appropriate level of pastoral support to both the employee and employer
- Ensure the support put in place for the “newly unemployed” due to COVID-19 continue in both urban and rural communities to address the change in the future of work identified pre-COVID
- Actively set up a seniors employment plan and support uptake of the employers toolkit for nature workers
