Grosvenor KiwiSaver funds attract money in the higher risk categories, but their conservative funds star

The latest data released for KiwiSaver performance as at September 30, 2012 is from Grosvenor Financial Services.

Grosvenor Financial Services Group (Grosvenor) is a funds management business formed in 1998.

Grosvenor offers 9 KiwiSaver schemes covering most of the main sectors and as at 30 September they managed approximately $224 mln worth of funds, making them the 10th largest provider according to data provided by Morningstar.

Of the $224 mln under management, approximately 41% is invested into Grosvenor's more aggressive KiwiSaver schemes.

Interestingly, 25% of the $224 mln is in the High Growth Fund where the exposure to growth assets exceeds 80%. This is quite different to the main industry trend where a bulk of the funds are in more conservative options.

The September returns reveal that Grosvenor's Conservative Fund (moderate risk profile) and Enhanced Income Fund (Cash sector) have out-performed their resepctive peers over the past five years.

The Cash Fund is also one of the best performers over the past 12-months, ranked second in its peer group based on Morningstar's data.

The remaining 7 funds offered by Grosvenor have provided members with solid, but not spectacular returns across both five years and 12-months.

Grosvenor offers members some high octane options (Trans-Tasman Small Companies and Geared Growth funds). These two investments are not your usual run of the mill schemes and require both courage and a long investment time horizon before you would considering investing into them.

Below is a table of the longer term performance of the Grosvenor funds. The return data is before tax and after fees and is as published by the managers. (No adjustments have been made to take into account those additional fees which scheme providers may charge and which are not included in calculating the fund performance. We do make such adjustments, but they will not be included until the full benchmarking is published.)
