Here are the key changes to know about in the New Zealand equity market; Mercury, Channel Infrastructure, Oceania, and Hallensteins lead the gainers today with Kathmandu, Kiwi Property Group, Freightways, and SkyCity Entertainment the main the decliners

Here are the key things you need to know about in the NZX markets over the past 24 hours. Changes are as at 3:00 pm and may change when the market closes at 4:45 pm.

WHAT THE NZX50 INDEX IS DOING
The NZX50 is down -0.4% so far today, holding onto a +0.8% gain over the past five days, contributing to a solid +9% gain for the last six months and a +11% increase year-on-year.

THE MAIN GAINERS
Gainers in the market included 35 stocks, led by Mercury Energy (MCY, #5), which rose +3% today. Despite this gain, Mercury has declined -2% over the last five days and remains down -6% year-on-year. Channel Infrastructure (CHI, #36) followed with a +2% gain, climbing +4% for the month and a strong +28% year-on-year. Both Oceania Healthcare (OCA, #39) and Hallenstein Glasson (HLG, #44) posted +1% gains. Oceania has surged +42% over the past six months and recorded a +4% increase in the last five days. Hallenstein Glasson also delivered a solid +4% gain for the month and +42% year-on-year.

THE MAIN DECLINERS
On the decliners list, 49 stocks posted losses, led by Kathmandu Brands (KMD, #50), which fell -4% today but remained +1% up over the last five days. Kathmandu’s share price is down sharply -50% year-on-year. Kiwi Property Group (KPG, #23) and Freightways Group (FRW, #21) both dropped -3%. Kiwi Property Group is down -6% for the month but up +5% for the year, while Freightways has gained +26% year-on-year. SkyCity Entertainment Group (SKC, #27) declined -2%, marking a -3% drop over the last five days and a -25% decline year-on-year.

KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mercury Energy (MCY, #5) has confirmed a $287 mln investment to build the Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm in Northland, marking its first wind project in the region. The 12-turbine, 77MW wind farm will generate 221GWh annually, enough to power 27,000 homes, and is expected to be operational by late 2026. This brings Mercury's renewable generation commitments to over $1bln across FY24 and FY25, including its ongoing projects – the Ngā Tamariki geothermal expansion and Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm expansion. Construction begins in January 2025, creating up to 100 jobs for the Northland region.
