Investment scam targets AMI clients

AMI Insurance has warned that scammers are using their brand in a fraudulent campaign targeting New Zealanders.

They say they have received a number of complaints about telephone calls, often more than one, purporting to be from AMI and selling investment products with a request to invest $10,000 to $25,000.

AMI did not sell investment products and had nothing to do with the calls, said John Balmforth AMI's chief executive.

There have been no reports of money being handed over, but 26 cases had been reported. It was believed many calls were not reported, Balmforth said.

"We have  notified authorities who are investigating these calls originating offshore."
