- Avoid building new roads or widening existing roads except where necessary for climate change adaptions, repair natural disasters, or enhancing safety.
- Introduce congestion charging zones in central city areas as appropriate.
- Banning the import of new and used fossil-fuel vehicles to New Zealand at, or before 2030.
- Continue to accelerate the replacement of combustion vehicles with electric vehicles.
- Ensure that the costs of maintenance and new road builds are entirely covered by road user charges.

- A $500 million pothole repair fund to urgently address the shocking state of our local roads and state highways.
- New Rules for pothole repair on state highways, including halving the standard response time for pothole repair from 48 to 24 hours.
- A requirement for NZTA to undertake renewal and rehabilitation work on at least two per cent of the roading network each year, more than double the current rate.
- Initial stages of National’s long-term vision of four lanes from Whangārei to Tauranga, driving growth in the upper North Island economic zone.
- Projects to tackle congestion and reduce travel times, including Mill Road in Auckland, a second Mt Victoria Tunnel in Wellington, the Hope Bypass in Tasman, and the Woodend Bypass north of Christchurch.
- Roads to unlock urban housing growth including Southern Links in Hamilton, Petone to Grenada and the Cross Valley Link in Wellington and the Hutt Valley, and the North West Alternative State Highway in Auckland.
- Increase speed limits to 110 km/h on three state highways where it is safe to do so and construct new Roads of National Significance to a 110 km/h standard.
- Limit the unnecessary use of road cones and temporary speed limit reductions to keep traffic moving when there is minimal safety risk.
