Former KPMG chief executive and chairwoman Jan Dawson has been named chairwoman of Westpac NZ, making her the first woman to chair one of New Zealand's major retail banks.
Dawson succeeds the retiring Peter Wilson, Westpac's chairman since 2008. Dawson joined the Westpac board in July 2011. The appointment is effective immediately.
“Jan has more than 30 years’ national and international business and management experience and after three years on the board has a deep understanding of the business and environment in which Westpac New Zealand operates," Westpac group chairman Lindsay Maxsted said.
"We are fortunate to have someone of her calibre leading the New Zealand board and building on Peter’s success.”
Dawson is categorised as an independent Westpac director, and is also an independent director of Air New Zealand, AIG Insurance New Zealand, Meridian Energy, Goodman Fielder and Beca.
PwC is Westpac's auditor.
