Both Westpac and MasterCard are talking up the benefits of being ahead of their respective competitors with the launch of the latter's MasterPass digital wallet in New Zealand.
The two yesterday said MasterPass was now available in New Zealand, more than a year after it launched in Australia, where ASB's parent Commonwealth Bank of Australia was the first bank to launch bank-issued MasterPass wallets last November. In New Zealand Westpac is the only bank going live with MasterPass from day one.
Peter Chisnall, MasterCard's New Zealand country manager, said as digital wallet issuers banks would get the opportunity to increase their "share of customer."
