The number of New Zealanders using smartphones is set to grow by about 30% over the next six months, and with growing numbers of baby boomers using them, the type of financial services sought by smartphone users will get more sophisticated, Roy Morgan Research suggests.
Howard Seccombe, Roy Morgan's international client services director, told interest.co.nz his firm's research suggested the number of New Zealanders with smartphones would rise by about 400,000, from 1.4 million, over the next six months. Seccombe was speaking as Roy Morgan released the Digital Universe, a digital media and behavioural research report.
Roy Morgan estimates 38.6% of New Zealanders aged 14 or over have a smartphone, and during the first half of 2013, 33.5% of New Zealand’s smartphone users did one or more banking and finance activities on their phone in an average four weeks.

Here's an interesting link from Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo (http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2013/09/14/2013091400412.h…), quoting statistics from the Korean government that over-60s there are also adopting smartphones (and also presumably the services that can be accessed using them).
I guess it's a good time for companies who are making/selling smartphones!
