Here are the key changes to know about in the New Zealand equity market; NZX50 retreats -0.3% as Gentrack, Vector, Mercury, Air NZ and Ryman are the main decliners; while Serko, Heartland, and Stride Property lead the mixed session

Here are the key things you need to know about in the NZX markets over the past 24 hours. Changes are as at 3:00 pm and may change when the market closes at 4:45 pm.

WHAT THE NZX 50 INDEX IS DOING
The NZX50 declines -0.3%, extending its decline over the past five days to -0.4%, although the index remains +0.9% higher over the past month, +2.6% over six months and +7.3% year-on-year. The market was narrowly tilted to the downside, with 41 decliners compared with 40 gainers.

THE MAIN GAINERS
Gentrack (GTK, #47) was the strongest gainer, rising +3% despite being -5% over five days, while it remains +3% higher over the past month, -48% over six months and -62% year-on-year. Serko (SKO, #49) added +2%, extending its five-day gain to +9% and one-month surge to +21%, although it remains -27% lower over six months; its one-year performance has turned positive at +36%. Heartland Group Holdings (HGH, #28) was up +1%, leaving it -3% over five days and -2% over the month, while it remains -4% lower over six months but is up a substantial +50% year-on-year. Stride Property Group (SPG, #38) also gained +1%, taking its monthly performance to +1%, although it remains -8% lower over six months and -6% over the year.

THE MAIN DECLINERS
Vector (VCT, #10) led the 41 decliners, falling -2% to sit -1% lower over five days and -1% over the month, although it remains +8% higher year-on-year. Mercury Energy (MCY, #6) also dropped -2%, taking its five-day decline to -4% and monthly fall to -5%, despite remaining +1% higher over six months and +5% over the year. Air New Zealand (AIR, #24) shed -2%, leaving it -2% over both five days and the month, while its six-month and one-year performances remain deeply negative at -28% each. Ryman Healthcare (RYM, #18) eased -1%, taking its monthly decline to -2% and six-month fall to -25%, with the stock also sitting -15% below its level a year ago.

KEY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ryman Healthcare (RYM, #18) and Vista Group (VGL, #43) have both announced director changes following James Miller’s appointment as Chair of the Financial Markets Authority. Miller, who joined Ryman’s Board in 2023 and Vista’s in 2021, will step down from both boards to focus on his new role, with Ryman retaining him until the end of October to support an orderly transition, while Vista will appoint a replacement non-executive director. At Ryman, David Pitman has immediately taken over as Chair of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee, with the company to begin searching for a new director, while Vista said it will provide further updates on Miller’s replacement.

Gentrack Group (GTK, #47) announced that Directors Fiona Oliver and Stewart Sherriff will retire from the Board with Oliver having served since 2019 and Sherriff since 2020. As part of its succession programme, Gentrack has appointed Stewart Taylor, Laurence Lafont and Trond Straume as independent non-executive directors from 14 August. Taylor, Spark New Zealand’s CFO, will chair Gentrack’s Audit and Risk Committee, while Lafont brings senior technology experience from Oracle, Nokia, Microsoft and Google Cloud, and Straume brings expertise in enterprise software, technology investments and digital transformation.
